Help the organization help others
LAREDO, Texas. (KGNS) – For over a decade, Volunteers Serving the Need has been helping our local heroes and their families.
After facing several challenges in the ongoing pandemic, the organization is now asking others to help them help others.
Giga Ramos, founder of Volunteers Serving the Need knows all the hardships veterans and their families face.
The organization is located along the train tracks in downtown Laredo, at block 1200 of Av Salinas.
The association owns a thrift store that sells many second-hand items, from pots and pans to toys and furniture.
Ramos created Volunteers Serving Needs and her thrift store and for 12 years she helped veterans and their families who struggled to put food on their tables along with other necessities.
Ramos says they have served more than 10,000 veterans and surviving spouses trying to make a difference in their lives.
People can buy items at the thrift store, these funds will go to help veterans, but there are other ways people can help.
For $ 20, you can adopt a veteran and provide him with food for two hundred dollars; however, the organization has faced some unique challenges.
Ramos says the pandemic has hurt not only the people they serve, but the organization’s staff as well.
While Gigi appreciates donations, they are no longer accepting donations at the moment, but she invites locals to stop by the store and shop until they drop.
If you’d like to volunteer, especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to help unload and repack their weekly food delivery, you can drop by the thrift store located at 1202 Salinas.
