Invacare Corporation Introduces Invacare® AVIVA® STORM RX™ Narrow Base Power Wheelchair

ELYRIA, Ohio, January 31, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Invacare Corporation (NYSE: IVC) today announced the release of a new, narrower version of the Invacare® AVIVA® STORM RX™ rear-wheel-drive power wheelchair.

The narrow-base model offers several new features over the standard version of the AVIVA® STORM RX™, a next-generation chair launched in August 2021, including:

  • 22.4″ overall width – A reduction of 2″

  • Smaller seat sizes – Seat sizes as small as 11″x11″ (Ultra Low Mini), a 3″ reduction from Ultra Low Maxx

  • Lighter – Chair weight reduced by more than 13% (45.4 lbs)

  • Tighter turning radius – Reduced by 0.4″

“I’m excited about the many benefits the narrow base adds to our already impressive range of AVIVA STORM RX, the only next-generation rear-wheel-drive electric wheelchairs that truly have 4 wheels on the ground. First feedback from our end users have been extremely positive, with the narrow base providing additional maneuverability and navigation that even surpasses some mid-wheel drive chairs on the market today.I truly believe this chair provides our end users with the best ride quality of its category and the peace of mind to safely navigate multiple environments without having to worry about what’s behind them,” commented Ann Quigley, vice president of sales, Motion Concepts, a division of Invacare.

The AVIVA STORM RX series is an innovative leap forward in our rear-wheel drive electric wheelchairs, focused on improving the end-user experience through design, technology and performance.

With its sleek base, the flared front end supports the use of the mid-mount foot platform for an overall reduction in turning radius, allows the legs to tuck under the chair, allows a user to closer to its surroundings and facilitates easier support pivot transfers.

LiNX® technology redefining rehabilitation continues to improve the setup process with new and improved features. From preset programming settings, over-the-air wireless programming, to integration with ASL specialty controls, setup is as easy as turning on the LiNX remote. The standard LED lighting system helps users illuminate the area in front of them.

With a short wheelbase and narrow width, the AVIVA STORM RX offers a compact base footprint for excellent handling.

The all-new, patent-pending Invacare SureGrip™ suspension system helps deliver a smooth, quiet riding experience indoors and out. A rear anti-tipper uses a shock absorber to help react to vibration and noise, providing a smoother, quieter ride. The drive motor is pushed down for better traction as the rear anti-tipper engages over a bump and the front caster bearing has an elastomer damper to help reduce vibration and impact.
