WEST ORANGE, NJ – Volunteers from I Want to Mow Your Lawn converged on West Orange on Saturday, April 23. The northern New Jersey-based nonprofit was founded two years ago by Brian Schwartz during the pandemic to help seniors, veterans and people with disabilities with lawn maintenance.

The organization partnered with equipment manufacturer Snow Joe, who donated battery-powered lawn equipment to the Earth Day effort in West Orange. Members of I Want to Mow Your Lawn met with Senior Services Coordinator Laura Van Dyke and her assistant Noelia Perez at City Hall on April 22 as tasks were handed out to volunteers. They enjoyed coffee and donuts, provided by Schwartz, and received other necessary supplies from Van Dyke and Perez, such as gloves, rakes and bags, all donated by the West Orange Public Works Department.

“This service is essential for a community that values seniors aging well and aging in place,” Van Dyke said as she and Perez thanked the many volunteers who came forward to help. Over 15 residents have received support from these lawn care volunteers, all of whom reside outside of West Orange.
