ADRIAN, Mich., October 27, 2021 / PRNewswire / – In recognition of World Sustainability Day, the fourth Wednesday in October (October 27), Wacker Chemical Corporation employees participated in environmentally friendly activities this month. Their work honors WACKER’s global commitment to ensuring a better world for future generations.

To kick off Sustainability Week, team members volunteered to pick up litter near the Charleston plant.

During a designated week each October, WACKER employees celebrate Sustainability Week to raise awareness and inspire community action to protect the environment. This year, the company has focused on initiatives aimed at reducing the carbon impact on the planet.

Most of WACKER’s 11 US sites have started or strengthened their recycling programs, and several have undertaken activities that went well beyond paper, cans and bottles.

In Adrien, Mich., the logistics team recycled packaging and storage materials, contributing to a total of 17,640 wooden pallets, 5,800 drums and 5,580 recycled bins since the team started this every year in 2020. The laboratories and other teams of Adrien improved their sample request process to process returned samples or defective samples discovered through the quality assurance process for sale to a national reprocessor. The reprocessor separates the compounds for resale or sells them to someone who will reuse them instead of disposing of them.

Since improving processes can enhance sustainability, teams took a closer look at their equipment. that of Adrien The room temperature vulcanization team adjusted their curing “recipe” which reduced screen waste by 95 percent. In addition, their process adjustments reduced packaging time by more than five hours, contributing to overall energy savings.
